Exercise and test the SCORM API

Overview

The SCORM API exerciser is a tool to exercise and explore the SCORM API. It is a single HTML page. It won't do much unless you launch it as a SCO in a SCORM conformant runtime environment. Then it automatically detects the API object and allows you to interact with it. For example, you can emulate a SCO communication session by clicking "LMSInitialize", getting and setting some data element values, then clicking "LMSFinish". Refer to the SCORM 1.2 specification for the data element names and values you can test (you can download the documents from http://www.adlnet.org. For ease of use, the tool also offers pick lists from which you can select data element names.

After every call, the tool shows the result returned by the API, as well as the API error status. This tool does not enforce API rules, so that you can test the effect of calling API functions out of sequence or with incorrect parameters. For example, you can try to call LMSGetValue before LMSInitialize, or try to set the value of a read-only data element, and observe how the API responds.

Click the screen shot above to try a live copy of the SCORM API exerciser running in the SCORM SCO wrapper, another demo application in this Resource Kit. They will pop up together in another window. They will be talking to each other through the SCORM API, and you will be able to see it happening. Remember to click LMSInitialize to begin the communication session. If you get stuck, you can click the "Reload SCO" button in the wrapper to reload a fresh instance of the API exerciser and start a new communication session.
